You, Too Can Get a Job

I was a special education teacher for many years. I am just recently retired. My daughter just landed her first teaching job after one year of interview after interview.

I landed my first teaching job by substituting in the district. I was a substitute for one and a half years before a permanent position became available. During that time I never said no to a sub job, no matter what. I needed the principal to see me in all aspects of subbing, and to know that I could handle any classroom situation.

I landed my first teaching job because I possess these qualities... I am determined. I did not give up knowing that I would get a job. I know it wouldn't be handed to me, so I had to work for it. And I had to be patient and wait for the opportunity to present itself.

Finding a teaching job can be hard, but here is some advice to make it easier... Do not let yourself get discouraged. If teaching was meant for you, you will keep looking until you find a job. You will not let statistics or anything negative about education blind you. You are a teacher, and you will get a job. The right job for you is worth the wait.
